Taylored Driving was created to offer resources for driving instructors. These are suitable for both ADIs and PDIs who are working towards their part 3 exam.
Taylored Driving offers a huge selection of road scenarios, from a basic straight road to tight bends, from T-junctions to crossroads, from one-way streets to dual-carriageways and everything between. All of these have been meticulously drawn to illustrate the possible situations that will occur when learning to drive, and that driving instructors will need to explain to their pupils before they are forced to face them in the real world.
The scenarios on offer have most of the real-world clutter removed to keep them simple and avoid sensory-overload, but they do include road signs that most commonly seen in this situation. This means that the Taylored Driving resources are suitable for autistic and ADHD pupils, as well as pupils with other learning needs.
You may notice that each dual carriageway scenario come with and without cat’s eyes on the picture. This is because you may wish to discuss cats eyes with your pupil, but also the amount of coloured dots could definitely cause or heighten anxiety, so you can use a scenario without them if you wish.
You will also notice that most of the scenarios are designed to be rotated and used from multiple directions, depending on what you want to demonstrate. Some, such as a tight bend to the left/right only work one way round due to conflicting road signs. Dual carriageways only work one way round, as do one-way streets. All others, including the many, many roundabouts, can be approached from multiple directions.
The reason the road signs are included on each scenario is to help pupils to link their theory learning to the real world. Pupils can learn about road signs in books, then see the connections whilst looking at the scenarios, and then create stronger connections in their brains when they see and experience them for real.
As a driving instructor, you would be able to use these road signs as a starting point for questioning your pupils. Ask them, “What does that sign mean?” Once they’ve nailed that, ask them what actions they will expect to have to perform when they see that sign, or what hazards the sign might present. You can easily increase how much you personalise the learning of each individual pupil.
A nervous pupil might benefit from taking the scenarios and the cars and showing you exactly what they are going to have to do as the drive or perform a manoeuvre. They can talk you through when they would accelerate, brake, change gears, perform observations etc. All without the risk a real car.
You will find, when you enter the store, either paper of PDF versions of the resources.
If you choose to buy physical copies, you have the option of a full bundle. This pack of resources includes 90 different road scenarios for driving instructors to keep in a folder, ready for when the need arises. These are laminated and hole-punched and come presented in a beautiful folder. Take a look in the store for pictures.
If more scenarios are added to the shop, these will also be included in the full pack; the price may occasionally vary to allow for this increase in content.
Also supplied with the full bundle are three small cars (3.5cm) and three tiny cars (2.5cm). The small cars are suitable for physically demonstrating to a pupil exactly what is expected of them when they approach the situation for real. You can show road positioning, distance from the curb, when to begin turning etc. using the model car. The tiny cars are included as some of the situations have to be created a bit more 'zoomed-out' to allow for the required detail, such as large roundabouts and dual-carriageways. Three of each are given so that you have enough of each to demonstrate almost any situation, such as parallel parking between two cars, or lane changes on a motorway.

A whiteboard pen and eraser are included in the full printed pack as well, so that you can draw anything you want in addition to what is given. Please note that to keep these looking as good as possible for as long as possible, you will need to wipe the pen marks off soon after use or they may become difficult to remove.
If you wish to purchase the PDF file but you would also like the small and tiny cars, these are available to purchase separately.
The PDF full pack is emailed directly to your inbox as soon as payment has been received, as are individual scenarios. If you do not see them in your inbox, check your junk folder.
Printed individual scenarios are laminated and hole-punched before mailing.
Taylored Driving will be adding more resources soon, including full lesson plans, so check back soon.
